Where did the Sumerians come from?

Over 5,000 years ago, the Fertile Crescent in the Near East gave birth to an advanced and mystical people known as the Sumerians. This civilization produced the first writing, first laws and the first schools as well as perfecting a medical practiced that is unrivaled in the ancient world. Highly skilled astronomers, the Sumerians watched the heavens for the signs that enabled them to turn an arid desert wasteland into a verdant garden where unparallel temples and cities dotted the fertile land between the winding rivers of the Tigris and Euphrates.
